SHS pair advances to State Cross X Debate Contest

Two Spur High School Students have qualified for the upcoming State Cross Examination Debate Contest March 15-17 in Austin. Two other SHS students will be alternates.
The SHS Cross X Debate team of Camrey Sanchez and Brooke Shobert were named District Runner-Up last week at the District 7 Cross X Contest held in Knox City February 5.The first two places advance to the State Contest. Also advancing to state is the first place District 7 team of Kate Baker and Haillee Cox from Knox City.

The SHS Cross X team of Kamry Shelton and Brynna Mason placed third at the District Meet, and they are alternates for next month’s State Contest.

Debate is the Texas University Interscholasrtic League’s (UIL) longest-running contest, dating back to 1910. One hundred five years later the UIL Cross-Examination Policy Debate State Meet is celebrated as the largest high school debate tournament in the nation. Texas UIL speaking competitions include two debate contests–Cross Examination and Lincoln-Douglas.
