Free income tax preparation and e-filing services are now available through a partnership between your local South Plains Community Action Neighborhood Center and the Coalition
of Community Assistance Volunteers, Inc. (a non-profit organization proudly serving the South Plains).
CCAV is the leading Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program on the South Plains, and provides FREE income tax preparation for people who earn up to $52,400 or less annually. The VITA Program helps working individuals and families take advantage of all tax credits they qualify for, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit (CTC), and education credits. IRS-certified community volunteers will prepare basic income tax returns with electronic filing – FREE of charge!
Taxpayers must bring the following items April 13 to have tax returns prepared and e-filed:
Original Social Security or ITIN cards and birthdates for each taxpayer and all dependents
Government-issued photo ID for each taxpayer
ALL W-2 Forms (from every placed worked in the previous year)
Information about last year’s health insurance coverage for all taxpayers and dependents (Which months, if any, did each person NOT have eligible health insurance coverage?)*
1099 Forms (if applicable): 1099-G Unemployment Benefits, 1099-INT Interest (from your bank), 1099-R Pensions, Annuities, and Retirement
A copy of last year’s tax return (helpful, but not required)
Voided check for checking account and/or deposit slip for savings account
Self-Employed (if applicable): Record of business expenses, record of business income, and 1099-MISC Forms.
Other documents (if applicable):
- Childcare expenses (including provider’s address and federal ID)
- mortgage statements
- real estate tax statement
- adoption expenses
- alimony paid/received
- notices from the IRS or state tax office
- college tuition or student loan information (including educational expenses); if itemizing – bring receipts or statements (medical expenses or charitable contributions).
