JGISD awards bids, sets date for tax rate hearing

The Board of Trustees of the Jayton-Girard Independent School District met in a budget workshop, followed by a regular meeting, on Monday, July 30, 2018. Board members present were: President Kathy Owen, Vice President Amanda McGee, B.J. Baldridge, Cole Carpenter, Connie Martinez and L’Rae Lee. Also present were Superintendent Trig Overbo, Principal Lyle Lackey and Business Manager Laci Scogin. Visitors in attendance were Vince Viaille and Sheryl Viaille of Specialized Public Finance, Inc., and Robert Cameron of BGR Architects. Trustee Cody Stanaland was absent.

Minutes from the June 18, 2018, budget workshop and regular meeting were presented. A motion was made by McGee and seconded by Martinez to approve the minutes as presented. Motion carried.

The bills and financial report were presented. A motion was made by Lee and seconded by McGee to approve the bills as presented. Motion carried.

A motion was made by McGee and seconded by Lee to approve 2017–18 budget amendments as presented. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Baldridge and seconded by Carpenter to accept the bid submitted by Farmers Co-op Gin for gasoline and diesel at the listed pump price. Motion carried. A motion was made by Lee and seconded by McGee to accept the bid submitted by B&M Supply for propane at 35 cents above cost. Motion carried.

No action was taken on the vendor list for the 2018-19 fiscal year and no action was taken on a request for county permanent school funds.

A motion was made by Baldridge and seconded by McGee to set a public hearing on the budget, tax rate and FIRST rating for August 23, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. Motion carried.

A motion was made by McGee and seconded by Owen to approve the Kent County Appraisal District Budget as presented. Motion carried.

No action was taken regarding the contemplated purchase of two tracts of real estate.

A motion was made by McGee and seconded by Lee to accept the Bleikers’ bid for the sale of a house owned by JGISD. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Baldridge and seconded by Carpenter to approve the issuance and sale of JGISD Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds, Series 2018. Motion carried.

No action was taken regarding the employee handbook, the student handbook, or the code of conduct for 2018-2019.

A motion was made by Mc-Gee and seconded by Baldridge to approve a quote for lament glass for interior windows. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Baldridge and seconded by McGee to approve a probationary contract for Cassie Valerio. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Lee and seconded by McGee to enter into executive session at 9:40 p.m. Motion carried.

The next JGISD board meeting is scheduled for August 23, 2018, at 7 p.m.
