Laverna Harrison

The angels rejoiced on Oct. 14, 2018 when Laverna Harrison of Jayton, TX entered Heaven. Laverna passed away at home surrounded by loved ones.

Services are to be held at the First Baptist Church on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 at Jayton, TX with Rev. John Murdock officiating. Burial will be in the Jayton Cemetery under direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home of Rotan.

Mrs. Harrison was born Nov. 18, 1929 in Roby, Fisher County, TX. She graduated from Jayton High School in 1947. She married Frank Odell Harrison on Nov. 28, 1946 in Jayton, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband in 1984 and brothers Royce Healer, Barb Healer, Willie Healer, Tommy Healer, Elbert Healer and sister Ima Jo Humphreys, grandson Dennis Hunt, and great granddaughter Caitlyn Harper.

Mrs. Harrison lived in Jayton most of her life, however she lived in Midland, TX from 2006 to 2010.

Mrs. Harrison owned and operated Jayton Flower Shop for many years. She also served as Kent County Treasurer for eighteen years. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for years and more recently, the Assembly of God Church. Always a faithful servant to her God, her faith sustained her through good times and bad. She was also a member of the Kent County Senior Citizens.

Mrs. Harrison will be greatly missed by her family. While they rejoice knowing she is no longer in pain, they will miss her love, wisdom and unfailing faith. She taught us all the true meaning of God’s grace and love. The knowledge she gave us will be etched in our minds forever as will her closeness and love for God.

She is survived by her children Dorothy L. Harper, Midland, TX; Frankie O. Smith, Granite Falls, NC; and Roy John Harrison, Jayton, TX; a sister, Donna Kay Healer Collins; grandchildren Chad Harper, Chimene Escobar and Karen Rogers, and great-grandchildren Justin Harper, Hunter Tate, Lily Tate, Atlee Escobar, Grip Escobar, Rush Escobar, Wyatt Rogers and Noah Rogers, and honorary grandsons John and Chuck Caddell.
