Thursday, August 9, 2018

For more than 30 years St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Spur has invited the entire region to an all-day festival known as a Jamaica (pronounced Ha-My-Ka). This year’s Jamaica will be Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018.

The festival kicks off at 11 a.m. on the church grounds, and the church’s kitchen will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Festival-goers will be able to purchase traditional Mexican foods, such as tamales, enchiladas, menudo and a variety of other foods.

Entertainment will include kids’ games, a horseshoe tournament, a cake walk, a silent auction, a country store, a raffle and more. Starting at 8 p.m. that evening, there will be a dance featuring a live band.

Throughout the day a DJ will be on-hand to provide music to create a festive environment.

The raffle will have 10 prizes, with a top prize of a $500 gift card. Other prizes are $400, $300, $200 and $100. Raffle tickets are available to purchase now for $25 a book or $3 each.
