September marks the start of dove season for almost 300,000 Texas hunters per year. After Winter Storm Uri hit the state in February, many hunters are wondering how the snowfall and below-freezing temperatures may have affected dove populations. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists report that hunters can expect a good dove season, especially in the South Zone.
In the regular meeting of the Spur ISD School Board held August 23, 2021, board members approved a Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan. Staff will continue to regularly sanitize desks, chairs and cafeteria tables, as well as other surfaces. Temperatures will be taken each day, and students will be encouraged to wash their hands frequently.
Another school year has started, which means 2021 Spur Homecoming will be here before you know it. The dates for homecoming are Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 30–Oct. 2.
Summer is winding down, but not the heat. Spring planted greens are long gone so it would be great to have some heat-tolerant greens to enjoy. It may be too late this season to be enjoying some of these greens that can tolerate our summer but make a list for next year.
