At its regular meeting Thursday, Jan. 21, Jayton-Girard school board trustees had a full slate of business, but one matter tops on their minds was how to replace a superintendent who had seen them through seven years of growth and success when Trig Overbo departs for Glen Rose ISD in a few weeks.
The Dickens County Junior Livestock Show took place last Friday and Saturday in the Swenson Park show barn, with lively participation from exhibitors, buyers, and spectators. Showing in rabbit, chicken, goat, lamb, swine and steer classes this year were 56 local 4-H and FFA students, plus several youngsters in Saturday’s PeeWee show.
On Monday the State of Texas opened up the entities which can request Covid-19 vaccines, according to Jan Harris with Stonewall Memorial Hospital District. In addition to hospitals and clinics, county judges and emergency management coordinators will now also be able to request vaccine.

Some 40 local youth exhibited more than eight dozen animals at the 79th Annual Kent County Junior Livestock Show last weekend in Clairemont, but one key community supporter wasn’t there to cheer them on as he had done for decades.
