Verna Adell Gannon, 1931–2022

LUBBOCK—On Monday, November 7, 2022, Verna Adell Gannon of Dickens, Texas, passed away in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 90. She was born on November 29, 1931, in Spur, Texas, to Lonnie and Thelma Bass. She attended and graduated from Spur High School in 1949. Prior to graduating she married the love of her life, Sam Gannon, on April 2, 1949; they were married for 32 years. They would later move to Post in 1960 and raise their family.

Adell will be remembered for her generous heart, work ethic and honesty. She worked for over 25 years at the Post Cotton Mill. She loved to crochet, read, and do puzzles but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Adell is survived by her two sons, James Dwayne Gannon of San Angelo, Texas, and Eddie Gannon (Stefanie) of Jayton, Texas; two daughters, Patricia Edenfield (Floyd) of Dickens, Texas, and Vickie Blacklock (Brad Moore) of Post, Texas; two brothers, Larry Don Bass of Spur, Texas, and Carlos Bass (Brenda) of Jayton, Texas; one sister, Gay Nell Smith of Lamesa, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Dixie Bass of Huntington, Utah, and Billie Bass of Spur, Texas; 9 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Gannon; her parents; a great-grandchild; and two brothers, Graden Bass and Tommy Gene Bass.

A visitation was held Friday November 11, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Zapata Funeral Home in Spur, Texas.

Services were held Saturday November 12, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Spur, Texas with interment at the Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to any of the following: Dickens Senior Citizens Center; Dickens Co-Spur Public Library; or Post Nursing and Rehab Center Activity Fund.
