Margaruet Jolene Smith, 1932–2022

JAYTON— Margaruet Jolene Smith, 90, of Jayton, Texas, passed away December 30, 2022. Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the First Assembly of God Church in Jayton, with burial to follow in the Jayton Cemetery. A visitation at the church was held prior to the service from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Services will be under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral home in Rotan, Texas.

Jolene was born in Peacock, Texas, to Stephen and Pauline (Veach) Webb on January 11, 1932. She married the love of her life,

Thomas Smith, on June 18. 1950. They were happily married for over seventytwo years.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, where she sang alto, and also with the quartet consisting of Thomas, Joe and Imarie. Jolene had such a sweet, precious spirit about her that was apparent to everyone who knew her. Jolene studied nursing at Western Texas College in Snyder. She was a nurse for over thirty-five years. Jolene was the best “Gran” to her grandchildren. She taught her children and grandchildren to love and serve the Lord.

Jolene was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Smith; parents, Steve and Pauline Webb; one son, Thomas Rayford Smith; and one grandson, Ty Gregory.

She is survived by two daughters, Tresa and husband, Delwin Gregory, of Sweetwater, and Deborah and husband, Ed Townsend, of Amarillo; a brother, Paul Webb of California; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
