Suspect in July 15 Lubbock murder arrested in Spur Aug. 13

According to Dickens County Sheriff Jay Allen, suspect Jospeh Barrera was apprehended in the home of a family member in Spur, was jailed in Dickens overnight, and was arraigned in Dickens the morning of August. 14 and transported to Lubbock County.

Spur adopts tax rate, considers utility rate increases

The City of Spur, under pressure to reconsider its proposed elimination of discounted utility rates for volunteer and retired firefighters, on Tuesday night discussed the topic openly and agreed to revisit its current rate structure and costs at a future date.

Dickens commissioners pass tax rate, officials’ salaries

On Friday, Aug. 14, Dickens County commissioners held a special meeting called the previous Monday after they postponed setting a tax rate and budget for the coming year. At issue during Monday’s regular meeting were questions regarding financial accounts in the tax assessor-collector’s office.

AUSTIN— The Texas Education Agency (TEA) today announced the release of 2026 A-F Accountability Ratings for public school systems and campuses across the state. 1,202 districts and 9,105 campuses were rated in 2026. 24% of both districts and campuses increased in rating compared to 2025.
