AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Don Huffines today said state sales tax revenue totaled $4.6 billion in July, 10.1% more than in July 2025. The majority of July sales tax revenue is based on sales made in June and remitted to the agency in July.

KAY ELLINGTON | TEXAS SPUR Steve Bland, who was elected mayor of Spur in May 2015 and served until stepping down for health reasons in January 2017, passed away in Lubbock July 30. Prior to serving as Spur mayor he had served as a Spur alderman in 2014.

New Spur football coach MarkWeaver and the Bulldogs started two-a-day workouts on Monday. The team will host Midnight Madness Saturday, Aug. 8 at 12:01 a.m. at Jones Stadium in Spur.The Jayton Jaybirds also started their drills this week, in preparation for the 23rd annual Gridiron Classic, coming upThursday, Aug. 27 through Saturday, Aug. 29 at Jaybird Stadium.
