Dickens commission approves canvass of general election

In the regular monthly meeting of the Dickens County Commissioners Court on Tuesday, Nov. 12 commissioner Charlie Morris moved to approve the canvassing for the Nov. 5, 2024 general election. Dennis Wyatt seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

Commissioner Mike Smith moved to approve the Interlocal Agreement for the municipally owned building energy efficiency retrofits program by and between the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, State Energy Conservation Office, and Dickens County. Wyatt seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

The court reviewed all bids for the GMC dump truck. Smith made the motion to approve the bid from Rolling Plains Ranch. Wyatt seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.

On a motion made by Morris and seconded by Wyatt the court voted unanimously to approve the purchase of a culvert and be reimbursed by the landowner.

Smith moved to solicit bids to replace the windows in the courthouse. Wyatt seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

No action was taken on discussion of a predator control program with Texas Wildlife Services.

The court went into executive session to consult with counsel at 10:01 a.m. and returned to open session at 11:00 a.m.

A motion was made by Wyatt and seconded by Charlie Morris to approve action on claims incurred against the county since the last commissioner’s court meeting. The motion passed unanimously.

Smith made the motion to approve a bill from Wyatt Tractor. Morris seconded the motion, which passed unanimously with Dennis Wyatt abstaining.

A motion to pay the Dickens County Historical Commission bills was made by Smith and seconded by Wyatt. The motion passed unanimously.

There were no line-item transfers and no budget amendments to report Court adjourned at 1:00 p.m.

Present were County Judge Kevin Brendle and commissioners, Dennis Wyatt, Precinct #1; Mike Smith, Precinct #2; Charlie Morris, Precinct #3; and Greg Arnold, Precinct #4, along with Brandi Abbott, Treasurer, and Danay Carnes, county clerk.
