Dickens Commissioners approve repairs to jail, courthouse annex in July meeting

In the regular monthly meeting of the Dickens County Commissioners on July 8, 2024, the court approved the regular departmental reports in the consent agenda as well as these items:

• Approved 21% Federal Poverty Guidelines minimum income standard as the Dickens Co. Indigent Health care monthly income statement.

• Approved the cost to repair air conditioning units at the courthouse that will exceed the county spending policy.

• Approved the cost to purchase grader blades for Precincts 3 and 4 at a cost that may exceed the county spending policy.

In the court’s action agenda, Will Humphreys of the Dickens VFD and Debi Gardner of the Dickens County EMS presented the annual reports for their departments.

In other action, Commissioner Mike Smith made a motion to approve sealed bids for propane. Commissioner Dennis Wyatt second the motion, which passed unanimously.

No action was taken on the extended warranty on the Precinct 3 Motor Grader.

The court discussed closing County Road 476, but no action was taken.

Commissioners discussed SB22 grant funds in light of recent changes to the sheriff’s deputies’ schedules. No action was taken.

Commissioner Charlie Morris made a motion to approve the engagement letter with Bolinger, Segars, Gilbert & Moss, LLP for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2024. Wyatt second the motion, which passed unanimously.

On a motion made by Wyatt and seconded by Smith the court voted unanimously to approve the revised Road Use Agreement with Greenalia.

Thecourtthendiscussed the Texas Commission on Jail Standards report of annual inspection.

Wyatt made a motion to approve the cost to repair Cemetery Road in Spur to be paid out of the Tribal Fund Grant. Commissioner Greg Arnold seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

Arnold made the motion to approve the cost to repair Dickens County Courthouse Annex and for it to be paid out of the Tribal Fund Grant. County Judge Kevin Brendle seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

Smith moved to approve the cost to patch the jail roof after 2023 hailstorm. Arnold second the motion, which passed unanimously.

No action was taken on bid on an In-Trust Property, waiting on Texas Communities Group to correct the property description.

The court discussed tribal funds.
