Due to the many calls and texts asking about my health I decided to use this means to convey my condition.
I have contracted a virus called myasthenia gravis, which attacks the nervous system in one of many parts of the body.
If it attacks the lungs it can cause death, but I am lucky it settled in my hand and feet, making both very swollen. It is a very rare disease but can be monitored, and doctors assured me that I can play golf in the near future.
But the worst condition that confines me to my home is, I have a herniated disc in my neck. It will be operated on in the near future and the procedure should completely restore my balance.
When bad things happen, if you will look hard enough there is something good to be found. This has affirmed why I love Spur and this rural area. During my two weeks in the hospital and rehab I had many calls and visits, including from several classmates from the great Class of 1960. Several churches led by their pastors in Spur have been praying for me. Also, so many old friends have called and offered their support. The First Baptist Church led by their pastor, and my fellow White River board member, sent me a note and signed by its members. This would not happen in the city. I am also blessed to have a wife and Charles, my brother, along with my daughter and sisters that have given me support and comfort.
I was born in Spur and intend to die in Spur. I am blessed to live in this area where, when trouble strikes, good neighbors responded with their support. This health issue has made me realize the support that Jesus and my fellow neighbors have blessed me with.
God bless each of you and soon you will see me back in town.
Thank you,
Woodie McArthur
