Galaxy Digital lays out 2025, 2026 expansion plans with Dickens commission at June meeting

In the regular monthly meeting of the Dickens County commissioners court on June 10, 2024, Mike Fry, representing Galaxy Digital, appeared before the court to discuss the 2025 tax abatement request, and Galaxy’s plans for the near future.

Among Galaxy’s plans for years 2025 and 2026 are a $50 million construction project that will bring four full-time jobs to Dickens County. This expenditure does not include more digital mining machines, but will focus on adding capacity, taking the facility from 100 megawatts capacity to 300 MW by next summer.

Their plans also include the next phase of the data center, and fully building out the substation to get it to full capacity, 800 MW in 2026.

Integral to Galaxy’s plans is a 100 percent tax abatement and a payment in lieu of taxes agreement with Dickens County.

In court action, Commissioner Charlie Morris made a motion to approve the tax abatement with Galaxy Phase II Addition after the addition of the coordinates are added. Commissioner Mike Smith second the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

In other commission discussion, Ruby Combs presented the Dickens Museum annual report, and Wess Abbott presented the Spur Volunteer Fire Department annual report.

In next court action, Dennis Wyatt made the motion to approve the bid from South Plains Communication for equipment for the 2024 Chevy Patrol Truck. Commissioner Greg Arnold seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

In a motion by Morris and seconded by Commissioner Mike Smith, the court voted unanimously to stay with the current employee health insurance policy, with the county absorbing the cost increase for the 2024-2025 Texas Association of Counties Health and Employee Benefits Pool Insurance.

Smith moved to approve the computer system lease/ license agreement with Pritchard & Abbott for the tax assessor/collector’s office. Commissioner Dennis Wyatt seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

Following, Smith moved to approve all sealed bids for dyed diesel, unleaded gasoline and propane. Wyatt second, and the motion passed unanimously.

Smith moved to approve the bids from Cotton Key, LLC for A and B properties. Greg Arnold seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
