JGISD school board approves new website in October meeting

In the regular monthly meeting of the Jayton-Girard Independent School District Oct.14, 2024, Superintendent Scott Bicknell gave a report that included recognizing All-Region Jazz Band, an update on the football stands, and an update on new school homes.

In a motion made by Jeff Arnold and seconded by Steven Collins, the board approved consent items as presented. Consent items included approval of minutes from the September 16, 2024 regular meeting, approval and payment of bills and financial report, investment report, and request for county permanent funds in the amount of $360,418.70 for capital improvements. All voted in favor, 5-0.

In the review of monthly bills, no action was taken.

In public comments, Debbie Myers appeared before the board. The Texas Spur reached out to Myers to include the substance of the comments here, but received no reply as of press time.

In a motion made by Stephanie Allen and seconded by Steven Collins the board approved the SLC Consortium Interlocal Agreement as presented. All voted in favor, 5-0.

In a motion made by Steven Collins and seconded by Matt Herzog voted to designate the November 11, 2024 regular board meeting for canvassing the November 5, 2024 school bond election results. All voted in favor, 5-0.

There was no discussion on facilities, property, safety and security.

In a motion made by Jeff Arnold and seconded by Steven Collins the board voted to consider the purchase of the new school website as presented. All voted in favor, 5-0.

In a motion made by Matt Herzog and seconded by Steven Collins, the board approve the Superintendent Evaluation Tool for the 2024-2025 School Year. All voted in favor, 5-0. The next meeting will be November 11, 2024 at 6:30 pm The following members were present at the meeting. Cody Scott, Stephanie Allen, Steven Collins, Jeff Arnold and Matt Herzog. Board members Cody Stanaland and Andy Vargas were absent.

School officials present were Scott Bicknell, superintendent; Jamie Humphries, principal; Laci Scogin, business manager; and Keith Emfinger, technology director.
