JGISD school board elects new officers in May meeting

In the regular monthly meeting of the Jayton-Girard Independent School District on May 13, trustees voted to certify the results of the May 4 election, and newly elected board members Stephanie Allen and Cody Stanaland were sworn in.

Nominations for board positions were opened. Trustees elected Cody Scott president, Stephanie Allen vice-president and Jeff Arnold secretary.

Superintendent Scott Bicknell’s report included a bond election discussion for November 2024, a review of estimated property values both M&O and I&S and preliminary budget information, and a review of the TREA Conference June 23-25, 2024.

Consent items were presented which included minutes from the April 18, 2024 regular board meeting, the bills and financial report, and a request for county permanent funds in the amount of $202,458.46 for capital improvements. With a motion by Andy Vargas, seconded by Steven Collins the board voted unanimously to approve consent items as presented.

In a motion made by Matt Herzog, seconded by Jeff Arnold, trustees voted unanimously to approve the Policy of AF (LOCAL)-Innovation District, FDA (LOCAL)-Transfers, BQ (LOCAL)-Site-Based Decision Making, and BQA (LOCAL)-Site-Based Decision Making.

In a motion made by Andy Vargas and seconded by Matt Herzog the board to approve exterior and interior doors as presented.

In a motion by Steven Collins and seconded by Jeff Arnold trustees voted unanimously to approve the Hellas Construction Bid for the football field as presented.

In a motion by Andy Vargas and seconded by Matt Herzog the board voted unanimously to approve the TEKS Certification Form for the 2024-2025 school year.

In a motion by Steven Collins and seconded by Andy Vargas trustees voted unanimously to approve a 10-month probationary contract for elementary teacher to Ashley Breshers.

The next regular board meeting was scheduled for June 20, 2024 at 6:30 pm.

Members present were Cody Scott, Stephanie Allen, Matt Herzog, Jeff Arnold, Cody Stanaland, Steven Collins and Andy Vargas. Officials present were Scott Bicknell, superintendent, and Laci Scogin, business manager. Kelsi Stanaland attended, to administer oaths to Stephanie Allen and Cody Stanaland.
