Spur board approves student accident insurance in March meeting

In the regular monthly meeting of the Spur Independent School District board on March 25, trustees began the meeting by recognizing the CX Debate State qualifiers Allee Hamilton and Joshua Ortiz.

In other action principal Joe Molina presented the board with the elementary report and the secondary report.

Tommy Dill presented the board with the safety and security report.

Superintendent Craig Hamilton presented the board with the athletics report.

In other action, Hamilton discussed with the board the 2022-2023 IDEA-B MOE Compliance review; the 2023 SHARS Preliminary Cost report and the Texas Department of Agriculture Administrative/ Procurement review.

Hamilton also discussed with the board possible transportation purchases for the 2024-2025 school year.

Initiatives approved by the school board: Texas Kids First Student Accident Insurance: A motion was made by Pat Ortiz and seconded by Cody Schmidt to approve Texas Kids First Student Accident Insurance. Motion passed 7-0.

TEA Professional Development Waiver: A motion was made by Terri Wyatt and seconded by Andrew Adams to approve the 20242025 Professional Staff Development Minutes Waiver for TEA. Motion passed 7-0.

TEA Waiver Modified Schedule State Assessment Testing Days: A motion was made by Casey Smith and seconded by Cody Schmidt to approve the TEA waiver for Modified Schedule State Assessment Testing Days in 2023-2024, 2024-2025, and 2025-2026. Motion passed 7-0.

The board convened in executive session at 9:04 p.m. to discuss personnel. The board ended its closed executive session at 9:45 p.m.

The date for the next board meeting was changed to April 29, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.

Board members present in addition to President Roy Sanchez were Pat Ortiz, Cody Schmidt, Andrew Adams, Terri Wyatt, Matt Humphreys and Casey Smith.

Others in attendance were Superintendent Craig Hamilton; Elementary Principal Jose Molina; Safety and Security Officer Tommy Dill; Business Manager Bridgette Zarate; Superintendent Secretary April Ortiz; and Meagan Hammack and CX Debate State qualifiers.
