In the regular monthly meeting of the Spur Independent School District board of trustees on May 28, the board recognized track state qualifier Margarito Pesina. They also recognized state horse judging qualifiers Allee Hamilton, Chrislin Roden, Emmitt Roden and Ace Walker along with teacher Justin Been.
Notary April Ortiz administered the oath of office to elected board members Pat Ortiz and Roy Sanchez execute their officer’s statements.
The board then elected officers for the new year, electing Roy Sanchez as president, Pat Ortiz as vice-president and Casey Smith as secretary.
In other action Principal Jose Molina presented the elementary report, and Principal Tanya Phillips presented the secondary report.
Superintendent Craig Hamilton presented the safety and security report, and Athletics Director Tate Clark presented the athletics report.
Hamilton then discussed with the board retention bonuses for Spur ISD Staff.
In other action, the board voted unanimously to approve Tax Deeds 5051, 5484, and 6882 for in-trust property bids as presented.
The board tabled action on a stipend schedule, but approved unanimously the Spur ISD teacher salary schedule for the 2024-25 school year.
Trustees then voted unanimously to approve the resignation of Jeremy Martin.
The board then convened into executive session at 9:25 p.m. to discuss personnel. The board ended its closed executive session at 9:28 p.m. with no action taken.
Members present were Matt Humphreys, Pat Ortiz, Roy Sanchez: Cody Schmidt, Casey Smith and Terri Wyatt. Andrew Adams was absent.
Others present were Superintendent Craig Hamilton, Elementary Principal Jose Molina, Secondary Principal Tanya Phillips and Athletic Director Tate Clark, along with business manager Bridgette Zarate and superintendent secretary April Ortiz.
