At press time three games remain for the six girls’ basketball teams in district 15-1A, but potential playoff scenarios far outnumber the half dozen competitors.
Guthrie’s Lady Jaguars (6-1) are in first place with only one loss. The Lady Jags defeated Spur for the second time this year Friday night in Spur, 27-24.
The Lady Jaguars are in control of their own destiny. Their remaining three games are Patton Springs in Guthrie, Jayton in Jayton, and Motley County in Guthrie.
If they win all three, they will be 9-1 and the district champ.
However, a trio of teams, Patton Springs, Motley County and Spur are bunched up in second place—all at 4-3.
If Guthrie loses two, or has a nightmare scenario and loses all three remaining games, either Patton Springs or Motley County could be back in the district title race—Spur, less likely, because it has lost twice to Guthrie.
Patton Springs’ last three games are Guthrie, Motley County and Spur.
Motley County’s final faceoffs are Paducah, Patton Springs and Guthrie.
Only three teams can advance in the playoffs.
On Tuesday night, Guthrie hosted Patton Springs’ Lady Rangers. Spur visited Jayton (3-4), and Motley County visited Paducah (0-7).
