Students in 4-H and FFA are eligible to be selected as Stock Show Royalty, according to Ronda Dalton with Dickens County 4-H. High school students will be selected as King and Queen and middle school students will be selected as Prince and Princess.
After the royalty crowning, the stock show gets underway with the Rabbit Show, immediately followed by the Chicken Show, the Market Goat Show, and the Market Lamb Show.
There is an afternoon break, and then the Beef Show begins at 6 p.m., immediately followed by the Market Swine Show, one of the largest events in the show.
On Saturday, Jan. 20 the schedule will be: 12 noon: The Peewee Show, Presentation of Showmanship Awards, Friend of Dickens County Junior Livestock Show Award and Auction Sale (including awarding of champions, and photo opportunities).
For those exhibiting in the show, move-in begins Thursday afternoon after school. A concession stand will be provided by the Dickens County 4-H for all events Friday and Saturday and opens at 6 a.m. on Friday morning and will serve breakfast foods, burgers, wraps and snacks.
Spur ISD will not have class Friday and Patton Springs has an early release at 12:30 p.m.
For those unable to attend the show and sale, the Dickens County Junior Livestock Association encourages participation by sending a donation to be presented at the premium sale to a participant’s livestock project. These taxdeductible donations can be mailed to P. O. Box 494, Spur, TX 79370, or given to any Association member. (Source: Dickens County Junior Livestock Association)
