Jayton 42, O’Donnell 37 Bi-district champion
The Lady Jays of Jayton got the ball rolling in the playoffs with a never-give-up tenacity, snatching victory from the claws of defeat to the dismay of the Lady Screamin’ Eagles of O’Donnell Thursday, Feb. 11 in Slaton, 42–37.
With the arctic adventures in weather that the area has seen the past week, it was up in the air whether the bi-district playoff game would even be played. As late as 1 p.m. on Thursday JGISD’s Facebook page said, “If the playoff game occurs, we’ll have early release at 2:30 p.m.”
With precision timing administrative and athletic decisions were made, and tip-off got underway at 3 p.m. in Slaton.
For three consecutive quarters the Lady Jays trailed O’Donnell, but then something clicked. The girls from Jayton had come too far to give up, and poured on 16 points in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.
On Tuesday they face Whiteface, ranked #4 in the state.

Guthrie 51, Petersburg 39 Bi-district champion
The Guthrie Lady Jags had to shake off their final game of the season—in which they lost the game and the district title to the Spur Spurettes.
Wicked winter weather had wreaked havoc with the schedule of their bi-district match in Slaton, which was moved up from 8 p.m. to a 5 p.m. tip-off. This was after the Lady Jags had a delayed school start of 10 a.m. due to winter weather.
Number three seed Petersburg from District 6-1A had a season record 8–7 and a district record of 6–4, unlike the Lady Jags, who only lost to two teams all year—Spur twice and Iowa Park once—for a season record of 15–3. But the Lady Buffs had come to play.
The first quarter ended with both teams tied up at 7–7, and Petersburg took a 20 to 18 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Whatever Coach Krissy Shipman said to the Lady Jags at halftime worked.
They came roaring back in the third quarter and jumped out to a 36 to 31 lead at the end of the quarter, then poured it on in the fourth to win the bi district title, 51–39.
Whatever Mojo the Lady Jags found in the second half of the bi-district game they will need to recapture on Tuesday because they face #5-in-thestate Sands. The Lady Mustangs are 24–2 on the year and 10–0 in district.

Spur Spurettes District 5-1A Champion – Bye first round
NEXT GAME Tuesday, Feb. 16, versus Borden County in Ira, 5 p.m.
The #25-in-the-state girls basketball team, the Spur Spurettes, 17–5, will face the #16 team in the state, the Borden County Lady Coyotes, 14–3, Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. in Ira.
