• Argo Blockchain hiring in the works. The firm, which had originally planned to inform Dickens County job applicants of decisions by Dec. 24, said it had not made final decisions by that date. The hiring department has assured applicants that they need a little more time to make sure they get it exactly right. Argo plans to make offers of employment sometime early in the New Year.
• Coindesk Crypto Festival set for June 9–12, 2022. Coindesk has announced that they will once again hold their Consensus crypto festival in person for 2022, showcasing a wide variety of topics related to blockchain, crypto, NFT and Web 3.0 ecosystems, and their effect on commerce and beyond. Festival passes can be purchased online at events.coindesk. com for $799.
• CEOs, actors, and other professionals opting to take salaries in bitcoin. The National Football League is the most recent organization to enable those on the payroll to choose crypto for their pay. Players like Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have adopted this option, along with five other players in 2021. The hope is that their salaries will actually be worth more over time as it sits in their digital wallet. Retailers and luxury brands are starting to figure out ways to accept crytpocurrency as a payment method as more industries offer salaries in the form of digital currency.
• There are other digital currencies than just Bitcoin. Coins or tokens other than Bitcoin are often referred to as Altcoins. Currently, the top valued Altcoins are Ethereum, Solana, Polkadot, Dodgecoin and Litcoin. This list is constantly changing, with coins like Binance, Chainlink, Cardano, Shiba Inu taking the top spots. With such a high volatility rate, it is wise to diversify and only invest what you are willing to lose.
• Taylor County (Abilene), Texas, has partnered with Lancium to build a renewable energy Bitcoin mining and data center facility in 2022. The facility will start with 200 megawatts, similar to the capactiy of Argo Blockchain’s Dickens County plant, and has a gigawatt capacity option for expansion. The data center is expected to bring in about $994 million in economic impact to the Abilene area.
