Each year, the Andrew Kent Soil and Water Conservation District in Jayton offers a $500 annual scholarship to qualifying applicants who are graduating from or have graduated from Jayton-Girard ISD and plan to enroll in any accredited institution of higher education (private or state-supported college or university) in an undergraduate program.

Post-graduate students currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university are required to provide, along with the standard application, a one-page essay related to soil and water conservation.
Current graduating seniors planning to enroll full-time in an accredited college or university are required to provide the standard application, as well as providing a two-and-a-half-minute oral presentation to the district’s board of directors.
The oral presentation and one-page essay should state how the student can contribute to the awareness of natural resource conservation and how he/she might be able to achieve this while utilizing his/her college major.
“Be creative!” reads the organization’s statement. “Even if your major does not relate to agriculture, wildlife management or environmental issues, there are many ways to share the message of conservation with people around you.”
The deadline to have the application and related documents turned into the district office is Thursday, April 8, 2021. The office is located in the Kent County Courthouse in Jayton.
