Area Farm Bureaus support Kent Food Bank

Representatives from Scurry, Stonewall and Kent County Farm Bureaus presented the Bruce Long Food Bank of Jayton with a $1,000 donation last week.

Rusty McDaniel, agency manager; Cody Cribbs, president; and Russell Wall, vice president met Bert Stanaland at the Kent County State Bank to present the donation as part of their Food Connection Program.

The Bruce Long Food Pantry was organized by the Kent County Ministerial Alliance in 2002. It was housed at the time in the basement of the Methodist Church in Jayton. Pastor Jim Reinbolt drove to the South Plains Food Bank in Lubbock each week to get the food and volunteers met to box up the food.

Now, South Plains Food Bank brings the food, already boxed and ready to go, to the old Kent County Nursing Home building, where people drive in and students from Jayton-Girard ISD load the boxes in recipients’ vehicles.

Anyone interested in receiving food can call (806) 763-3003 for more information.
