It’s that time of year again—UIL One-Act Play time, that is. Jayton and Spur high school drama troupes are busy preparing for ambitious productions they will workshop during clinics and then stage for district contests in Spur on March 5.
Jayton will be performing “Treasure Island” based on the 1881 novel of piracy and the high seas by Robert Louis Stevenson and adapted by Bryony Lavery.
Cast as adventurer Jim Hawkins is Erielle Coulter. Grandma is played by Claire Nail; Bill Bones by Tripp Scott; Dr. Livesay by Brynn Yanez; Squire by Molly Pierce; Black Dog by Nathaniel Williams.
Aaron Hernandez will play Captain Smollett, with Hunter Gilbert as Long John Silver.
Joan the Goat will be played by Katherine McGee; Israel Hands by Kaden Valerio; Dick the Dandy by Kloe Thomas; Killigrew the Kind by Brooklynn Coulter; George Badger by Andrea Benavides; Grey by Ben Blankenship; Ben Gunn by Joel Williams; and Captain Flint the parrot by Jayme Braly.
Alternates are Pecos Smith, Alana Croft, and Abbie Mullen.
Working on the crew are Tye Scogin, Caleb Chisum, Harley Smith, and Jaydon Rivera. The production will be directed by faculty members Hillary Bleiker and Kristi Tidmore.
“This show is very different from anything we have ever done,” said Bleiker, “so we are excited about the challenge.”
Spur High’s own production will be “Alice!!!,” co-directed by faculty members Miles and Megan Hammack. Their district performance will be March 5 in Guthrie, with a public performance scheduled afterward.
Though the show’s cast has not yet been finalized, participants are expected to include Gavin Arnold, Kevin Renderos-Reyes, Karla Reyes-Amaya, Audrey Pafford, William Hancock, Hannah Mosley, Zage Barron, Laney Weiser, Anna Garza, Kori Swaringen, Shilo Mendez, Mallory Leary, Maranda Williams, Juan Molina, Jorden Zarate, Abby Rodriguez.
Alternates anre Maddison Ruddick and Za’Taeveya Courtney. Crew include Chris Castillo, Jezaray Walker, Koki Horton, and Margarito Pecina.
