Matt Nackino, head of design and construction for Argo Blockchain, the international cryptocurrency company building a U.S. location in Dickens County between McAdoo and Afton, announced in a video on LinkedIn and Twitter on January 5 that the firm’s Helios facility’s main structure and outside facade are officially complete.
Nackino said interior computer rooms are getting framed out and sheetrocked, with plumbers and electricians now working on site.
He said that 10 air coolers will be on site before month’s end. These machines, he said, weigh about 50,000 pounds each and will feed the first 40 megawatts of Argo’s Bitcoin mining machines. All coolers will be arriving in next 30 to 60 days.
After receiving air coolers this week, construction itself is about a month away from completion, and substructure is underway with all of the crews and cranes ramping up.
In a statement to investors last week, Argo Blockchain PLC (LSE:ARB, OTCQX:ARBKF, NASDAQ:ARBK, ETR:0XP) said it increased the amount of monthly bitcoin mined in December and construction of its new Helios cryptocurrency mining facility in Texas is on time for completion in the first half of this year.
Some 214 bitcoin or equivalent (BTC) were mined in the past month, the cryptocurrency miner told investors in the statement, up from 185 BTC the month before and 96 in December 2020.
Chief executive officer Peter Wall said in the company’s video, “2021 has been a transformational year for both Argo and the cryptocurrency sector.” He continued, “We began development on our mining facility in Texas and we took Argo to NASDAQ. Our efforts allowed us to expand our global presence and we look forward to the year ahead and the opening of our mining facility in Dickens County, Texas.”
In additional Argo news, Dickens County Judge Kevin Brendle reports that Argo has been conducting job interviews and has extended offers for some positions, such as security. Candidates for other jobs have reported making it through the application screening process, with multiple follow-up interviews held remotely.
