The Abilene Reporter-News’s sports staff has named Jayton boys basketball coach Ryan Bleiker as their 1A Coach of the Year.
Here’s what they said in announcing the honor.
“After leading Jayton to its first trip to the state tournament last season, Bleiker worked his magic again and got the Jaybirds back to the state tournament.
Jayton ended the season with a 31-4 record. Slidell beat the Jaybirds in the Class 1A state semifinals (in a season during which the UIL state final remains suspended due to the Covid-19 crisis), and also defeated Jayton in the title game last season.
Bleiker is 57-10 as the Jaybirds coach the last two seasons.
