The Frest readers. In bThe Friends of the Library received a donation in the memory of Clara Milson, who was the mother of Kathy Woolley. All of us at the library are very sorry for the family’s loss.
It has been a busy couple of weeks at the library. Besides getting quite a few new books in, we have been getting ready for our Chili Dog/Frito Pie Fundraiser that is set for Saturday March 11 at the Spur Community Center. Since we usually have our fundraisers at the library this will be a new experience for us all. We are hoping we will be able to accommodate more people with the extra room.
We are going to have our silent auction, but this time the items are already available to see either at the library or on the library’s Facebook page. The bidding is already open at either place as well. We have had some great response from the community in both donations of items for the auction and bidding on the items as well. Bidding will be open up until the winning bids are announced at the end of the evening at the community center.
We are also selling 50/50 raffle tickets with the winning ticket to be drawn at the end of the evening as well. This is going to be an event you will won’t want to miss. The fundraiser is sponsored in part by South Plains Electric Coop, Cap Rock Telephone Cooperative, Helping Hands of Dickens County and Lawrence Brothers Grocery of Spur.
One of the new books we have is “Robert’s Story: A Texas Cowboy’s Troubled Life and Horrifying Death” by Stephen G. Michaud. This is a biographical account of a Texas cattle rancher. There are many five-star reviews on this book, such as this one from an Amazon reviewer: “I was familiar with this author because of his well-known book in the ’80s about Ted Bundy, so I picked up this one. I would not typically be drawn to a book about cowboys or Texas cattle ranches. But this book immediately captivated me. It's a jaw-dropping, well-documented tale of greed, manipulation and exploitation, in this case of one frail, dying Robert East, a cowboy from a storied ranching family who became enormously wealthy after a gas well was discovered on his vast property. I highly recommend this book. It deserves a wide audience!”
We received two large print western fiction books. Author Rusty Davis just released his newest in the Adventures of Fox Running and John Dooley with “Justice Warrior.” From William W. and J.A. Johnstone we have from the MacCallister series we have “Riding the Nightmare.”
Check it all out at the library.
