The Friends of the Library is having a Chili Dog & Frito Pie Fundraiser, Saturday March 11, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 7:30 pm at the Spur Community Center. Join us for an evening of great food, great friends and a great cause. The drawing for the 50/50 raffle will be held toward the end of the evening. Tickets for the drawing can be purchased for $1.00 each or six for $5.00 from now until right before the drawing from any library board member or you can purchase them at the library. We will have a silent auction ending that evening as well. We are working on getting the silent auction items put together so we can post them online for those who cannot attend that evening. Please watch our social media page for details on the silent auction. We are still taking donations of items for the silent auction. We have already received some pretty awesome donations from individuals and a variety of items from the Pitchfork Ranch. Texas Big Sky Photography donated some amazing snow and bison prints from their recent photo shoot at Caprock Canyons State Park. Spur Hardware has pledged a donation of another one of their beautiful knives and also an item from the Mercantile. We are really excited to get these items ready for everyone to see.
We have new books for our youngest readers. In board books we have “I Love You This Much,” “Baby Signs,” “Huggy Kissy,” “Ten in the Bed,” and “Touch and Feel Ponies.” Also in board books, but with sounds we just put on the shelf “Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr. Seuss. We also have several of Victoria Kann’s Pinkalicious series easy readers like “Tickled Pink,” “Flower Girl,” “Crazy Hair Day,” “The New Teacher,” and “The Pink Drink.” We added “Spring Sings for the Grouchy Ladybug” and “Hear Bear Roar” by noted children’s author Eric Carle. In juvenile fiction we were donated a copy of Eleanor H. Porter’s “Just David,” which was checked out by a patron who is a little older than the typical juvenile fiction reader (my mom) and she loved it. Eleanor H. Porter wrote “Just David” in 1916 two years after the success of her book, “Pollyanna.” Though also a bestseller at the time, “Just David” has rarely been reprinted since its release. Whole Heart Ministries decided to reprint the book in 2011 for families to enjoy together because of the message of focusing on the beautiful and lovely things God has given all of us to enjoy.
In large print fiction we added to the library’s shelves “Wyoming Homecoming” by Diana Palmer, who Publisher’s Weekly calls “the queen of desperado quests for justice and true love.” In his most autobiographical novel to date, James Lee Burke continues the epic Holland family saga with a writer grieving the death of his daughter while battling earthly and supernatural outlaws in “Every Cloak Rolled in Blood.” In large print inspirational fiction we have “Ever Constant” by Tracie Peterson and Kimberly Woodhouse and “Looking for Leroy” by Melody Carlson.
Check it all out at the library.
