Bulldogs battle injuries, keep working to find rhythm

On Friday, September 29, Spur played the Division 2–ranked Jayton Jaybirds at Spur’s Jones Stadium. The Spur Bulldogs gave it all but came up short with a final score of 63–6. The Dogs fought hard and never gave up as they battled the Jayton Jaybirds.

The Jaybirds won the toss, electing to receive the ball to start the game. The Bulldogs were able to make some good defensive plays against the Jaybirds. JD Hamilton led the tackles for the team, with 7; Preston Abbott trailed with 6. Despite the efforts of the team defense, Jayton would be able to score.

The offense for the Bulldogs was impressive to watch as they battled as a team and changed up some plays. Margarito Pesina was able to score for the Bulldogs late in the second quarter; he rushed for a total of 89 yards during the game.

The game would end with the mercy rule at halftime.

Head Coach Tate Clark said, “We were able to move the ball a little but couldn’t finish the drives. Jayton is a great team, and I felt like at times we did some good things. Hoping to get healthy this week.”

The Bulldogs still have several injured players; this puts young players on the field, but the Bulldogs are still battling diversity as a team with only eight players.

This week Spur will travel to Wellman-Union Friday, October 6, 2023, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
