Last Friday, September 8, the Spur Bulldogs played Motley County at Spur’s Jones Stadium. The Bulldogs fell short in the end with a final score of 79–54.
The football stands filled with fans from both towns for the sometime rival game. It was a great atmosphere to play a Friday night Texas six-man football game. Both teams entered the field with a mentality of winning. They both battled each quarter of the game. It was a great one to watch.
The Bulldogs lost the toss and Motley elected to receive the ball to start the game. The Bulldogs came out and fought defensively, and they would be the first team to score. Ace Walker had the first touchdown with the extra point attempt no good. The Matadors responded and scored after a series of plays to tie it up six to six. The teams had a great defensive game in the first quarter, but Motley came out on top with the score ending the quarter of six to twenty.
The second quarter was a fantastic quarter. The Spur Bulldogs battled back by scoring four touchdowns. The Bulldog defense kicked in, and they came out to play. Walker and JD Hamilton scored for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs ended the quarter trailing the Matadors by eight points; the score for the first half was 32–40, Motley.
After halftime, the bulldogs were fired up as they entered the field only trailing by a touchdown. They were hyped up ready to play. Walker and Hamilton both scored in this quarter. Many tackles were made, and they held the Matadors to only one touchdown finalizing the third quarter score 48-46, Motley.
The final quarter was the most difficult quarter of the game. The Bulldogs battled the Matadors to the very end. Adrian Garza-West caught a long pass and scored for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs’ defense was weakening after playing four full quarters. They fought to the end but ended up losing the game 54–79.
Walker led the tackles by eighteen with Hamilton trailing with seventeen. Ace also led the rushing yards with 129 yards, and the passing yards with 120 yards. Hamilton had 120 yards receiving during the game. These young men fought to the end, and the community is very proud of the Bulldogs’ efforts during the game.
Coach Clark said, “The guys showed a lot of improvements. We were able to move the ball and get a few stops. Our depth got us in the end of the game. I feel like we have improved every week and need to just keep doing that the rest of the year.”
The Bulldogs will play at Westbrook on Friday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m. Come out and support your Bulldogs.
