The Texas Six-Man Coaches Association girls’ All Stars game in Wichita Falls on Saturday was a battle throughout as neither team led by more than seven points.
The East led by six points with 4:54 remaining in the opening quarter when Kaylee Puentez from Robert Lee scored seven of her 12 points to pull the West within 21-18 at the end of the first quarter.
The game was tied at halftime, and the West All Stars held a slim two-point lead after three quarters. Offensive MVP Brandy Campos from Patton Springs scored seven of her 12 points in the final quarter to help push the West to a 78-71 lead with 1:04 remaining in the contest.
Campos was an alternate selection to the all-star game, which provided her plenty of motivation. “I wasn’t a first pick so this feels really nice,” Campos told the Wichita Falls Times Record News.
The Patton Springs graduate, who will play basketball at Frank Phillips College in Borger, also said, “I was nervous in the beginning of the game. I just started to shoot and relax.”
