In the regular monthly meeting of the Dickens City Council on March 9, the council voted to raise the cost of two water services.
Stephen Hart made the motion that due to the increasing cost of supplies, that the city increase each thousand gallon of water charge by one dollar ($1) and increase the sewer cost by two dollars ($2). Jesus Zarate seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Hart then made the motion to increase the water tap rate to $650 and the sewer tap rate to $400 due to the increasing cost of supplies. Zarate seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
In other action the Council discussed a requirement for TC’s Ponderosa restaurant to install in a grease trap, but the action was tabled to see if new chemical and regular maintenance could solve line stoppage problem.
In other initiatives, Marie Mullins motioned to purchase an upgrade for the SCATA system. Hart seconded and the motion passed.
Zarate motioned to purchase a pickup for the water department for $8,000. Stephen Hart seconded and the motion passed.
The council also voted to accept Kevin Marshall’s resignation from the city council, and approved calling for the May 6, 2023 election for two council seats and one mayoral seat with early voting to take place from April 24 to May 2.
Council members attending were Mayor David Warren, Mayor Pro Tem Marie Mullins, Stephen Hart and Jesus Zarate. Dillon Hale and Kevin Marshall were absent. City Secretary/ Manager Lillian Atkinson and Public Works Supervisor Becky Rodriquez attended. Nancy Hale of TC’s Ponderosa, Suzanne Reese, Mark Eichman and David Wallace also attended.
