Spur City Hall has had a familiar, smiling face at the front desk since 2016. Ashley Carothers’ smiling face will still be there in the office as of last week—just around the corner.
Carothers was promoted to the city secretary position upon approval by the city council, after serving as city clerk for five years.
Carothers, who moved to Spur in 2011 to be with her now husband, Feliciano (Fish) Carothers, had previously worked in the retail sector before joining the city staff in 2016. The couple has four children, Haylie Reese, 19, and Payton Reese, 17, and Ethan Carothers, 12, and Emily Carothers, 11.
A 2001 graduate of Plainview High School in 2001, Carothers attended South Plains College and Post University online.
Working with elected officials and past or present employees at City Hall has been “a great influence to help better my career,” Carothers said. She expects to “work diligently to complete the tasks at hand with any and every situation that comes my way to the best of my knowledge and ability.”
The new fiscal year may bring numerous demands for anyone stepping into a new position, but Carothers noted that “all tasks are important and every challenge will be faced in a timely manner.”
She covets understanding from Spur residents as she gets up to speed in the new position. “The City is transitioning into a new era to better help and serve them,” Carothers explained.
The best way to get in touch with Carothers is by calling (806) 271-3316 during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday through Friday) or emailing spurcitysec@gmail.com.
She also checks messages through Facebook Messenger on the City of Spur page.
