Colton Rogers, the head girls basketball coach at Rule, has been named the head girls basketball coach of the Spur Spurettes.
He replaces David Castellon, who coached the Spurettes for five years, earning more than 100 wins and four playoff appearances.
Rogers said he’s “looking forward to coming into a program with a tradition of winning.”
A 2019 graduate of Angelo State University, Rogers was the head basketball coach at Rule; in his first year of coaching his team missed the playoffs by one game, the furthest the girls basketball team had advanced in a decade. In his second year, they made the playoffs.
Rogers will also be the head girls track coach and will teach junior high English.
Additionally, Hunter McCarter has been hired to be a junior high and high school assistant coach in football, basketball and track. He fills the position previously held by Seth McMinn.
McCarter is a 2022 graduate of Angelo State University with a degree in history. He did his student teaching at Robert Lee and also assisted with coaching duties there. A 2016 graduate of Snyder High School, McCarter will teach junior high social studies.
GOING
Principal Michael Norman resigned last week to accept a position with Crosbyton schools. Norman was with Spur schools for five years. According to superintendent Craig Hamilton, the school is reaching out to candidates to find the right person for this key position.
Band director Amy Harris has resigned, and the school is actively trying to hire a new band director, according to Hamilton. Other open slots include a junior high science teacher and teachers’ aides.
Hamilton said he will also be discussing the school board the need for the school to have a business teacher.
