A sheriff’s sale of assets formerly held by the Farmers Coop Gin in Jayton yielded $143,092 into county coffers April 4, according to Kent County Appraisal District chief appraiser Cindy Watson.
But the best news is that the sale may pave the way for the return of gas and diesel pumps to consumer service. The entire rural county has been without a source for locals or travelers to purchase fuel since the Coop closed more than a year ago.
Tract 1 & 2 (cotton gin building and land) were purchased by Roy Chisum for $14,392.
Tract 3 (coop store) was purchased by Lonestar Hardware Sales & Service for $46,000.
Tract 4 & 7 (gas pumps & land to east of gin) were purchased by Rockin’ W Real Estate for $80,000.
Tract 5 & 6 (empty lots north of East 1st St.) were purchased by Lonestar Hardware Sales & Service for $2,700.
