Having story time at the library almost made things feel normal again. It was great to see the little ones enjoying the stories about bunnies and Easter. They even got to sing songs and make their own music with the shaker eggs Miss Dee Dee made. We are still looking for some volunteers to help out with story time. If you are interested come by or call the library at (806) 271-3714.
Diamond painting on craft night is almost here! There is quite a bit of interest in this class, so if you are planning on bringing a large crowd please let me know. I want to make sure we have enough projects for everyone. Guest instructor Charlotte Sprayberry has been diamond painting for some time now and is going to bring some of her completed projects for everyone to see. This will take place at the library at 403 East Hill Street on Monday, April 5, from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. We would love to have other guest instructors come on craft night. Let me know if you would be willing to volunteer to host a craft night.
We have a volunteer who has suggested hosting computer classes at the library. We need to know if there is enough interest from the community. The classes could be computer basics for those who would like to be able to utilize a computer, but doesn’t know where to begin. There has also been talk of a Windows 10 class. Some of the companies around town might want to update their employees on the operating system. If you are interested please leave your name, your contact information, and which computer class you would be interested in at the library.
Part of the money received from the grant we received from the Tocker Foundation has been used to order a few books last week. Any time now we should be receiving some easy readers for the young ones, a few chapter books and graphic novels for the more advanced readers, some bestselling thrillers, mysteries, and romance novels and new DVDs. Without the generosity of folks like those at the Tocker Foundation, small rural libraries like ours would have a hard time finding funding to maintain our collections. I personally would like to thank Darryl Tocker, executive director and board member, and Karin Gerstenhaber, associate director of the Tocker Foundation. Karin is always there to answer any questions you have.
Midland County Public Library will be hosting virtual patron training for the Libby app. Libby is the free app used for our e-books. The training will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday April 13. If you are new to Libby, they will begin with “Getting Started with Libby.” At 10:45 they will have some of the experts’ tips and tricks with the “Libby Deep Dive” session. There will also be a question and answer session. If you are interested in this virtual training, the link to register is on our library’s Facebook page. You can also call me at the library for more information.
A donation of a few DVDs was made last week to the library. We now have all three Lord of the Rings movies: “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.” Another donation made last week to the library, and now on our shelves is Joe Abercrombie’s First Law Trilogy, beginning with “The Blade Itself.” Number two in this fantasy series is “Before They Are Hanged,” and number three is “Last Argument of Kings.” All three books received rave reviews on many book websites. Check it all out at the library!
