The Crosby County Pioneer Memorial Museum will host a “You’re Beautiful! Style Show”Saturday, March 25 at 3 p.m. to benefit the American Cancer Society and to help cancer survivors through inspiration and connection. Women from across the region will model styles at the event, according to Martha Kirk of Crosbyton, one of the organizers.
Among the models lined up to participate is Amanda Perales of Floydada, who has previously helped organize events to support the community of those who are battling, or have battled, all types of cancer. Models enlisted thus far hail from Crosbyton, Floydada, Idalou, Lorenzo, Lubbock, Post, Ralls, Spur, and Texas Tech, said Kirk.
As these survivors and fighters of cancer model, individual stories of the fight against cancer will be shared to upbeat music. A trio of three women are modeling to honor their mother and mother-in-law who died from cancer.
“The stories will be gripping, but celebratory because these models have all been fighters!” said Kirk. “Of course, men will be welcomed in the audience because who doesn’t want to celebrate with their wife, mother, or sister!”
The event is being sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture and the Crosby County Pioneer Memorial Museum. Styling the models in the latest spring looks will be two area retail stores, Tumbleweed Market from Ralls and Stuffology from Crosbyton. Light refreshments will be served.
Tickets are $20 and are a tax-deductible donation.
Donation sponsorships are also being solicited from businesses and individuals, with a Gold Level of $300, Silver Level of $200, and Bronze Level of $100. These donors will be highlighted in the event program and advertised as supporters.
Any amount of donation is welcome, as well, said Kirk. All tax-deductible checks are to the Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture, tagged as “American Cancer Society.” To donate, mail donations to P.O. Box 202, Crosbyton, TX 79322, or for questions, contact the Crosbyton Chamber at (806) 853-7140.
In addition, Skylar Blount, a Texas Tech University senior majoring in retail management with a minor in fashion merchandising, will be sharing tips on combining designs“to look and feel your very best.” Suggestions for styling for best looks comes from a thesis project Blount has been working titled “Virtual Fashion Co-Design: Improving Resilience and Self-Concept,” under the study of“Breast Cancer patients’Self Concept and the Effects of Fashion Therapy.” This study continues to need women who are battling or have battled cancer to participate in the program. If you are willing to participate or want to know more, please contact Blount at (806) 786-1690.
More information and ticket locations will be unfolding soon, according to Kirk. Those interested in volunteering should contact Martha Kirk at (806) 778-2987 or Margot Hardin at (806) 620-2957.
