The Spur Bulldogs took the phrase “Revenge Season” to heart on a very warm and mosquito-filled Friday evening in Petersburg, burying the Buffaloes 68–20.
Fans sensed that the Buffaloes had made a huge mistake when they won the toss but deferred the kickoff, and senior Le’Zhane Walker ran it all the way home for the Bulldogs’ first score. The Buffaloes answered on
The Buffaloes answered on the third play of their drive with a score and extra point.
On their next possession, Walker again took the ball in for the Bulldogs on the second play of the drive. Junior Kayden Martinez tacked on the extra point.
Next drive out, Spur’s defense came to life and held the Buffaloes to a three-and-out, after which the Dawgs poured in on.
On their third possession, Spur nailed their third score of the evening when junior Cory Hamilton took junior Gunnir Bateman’s handoff over the goal line, and the Dawgs just kept rolling over the Buffaloes.
Spur’s defense held Petersburg, and again the Bulldogs kept hammering it home with junior Ryan Davis carrying the ball over the goal line and Martinez getting the extra point.
Second quarter saw Buffaloes score once, but the Bulldogs just kept rolling up the scores with seniors Nicholas Ortiz and Austin Fulmer, along with Martinez, all scoring touchdowns and Martinez doing what he does best—kicking the ball through the uprights.
After the third Buffalo touchdown, Fulmer intercepted a Petersburg pass and on the next play Ortiz took it home, sealing the game for the Bulldogs according to the mercy rule at 3 minutes into the third quarter, 68–20.
The Bulldogs face Meadow at home this week, in a matchup moved to Thursday night at 7:30 due to difficulties in finding enough officials. The Broncos won their first outing this fall by a narrow margin and were 1 and 8 in their 2020 season.
