Demolition takes steps toward new firehouse

Progress is being made on the new Spur firehouse project on at 3rd Street and Burlington Avenue.

According to Dickens County commissioner Charlie Morris, who is assisting with heavy equipment work at the site, this week Phil Brewer, pictured with Wess Abbott, Fire Chief, delivered a new John Deere skid steer with grappler bucket to the demolition site.

“The machine was donated for use in clean out of the buildings and proved instrumental,” said Morris. “A big thank-you goes to Yellow House Machinery in Lubbock for the loan of this machine, and a big thank you to Phill Brewer, sales representative, for facilitation the effort.”

Morris said that the buildings are cleared of all interior content and demolition has begun. “It will be a huge task and it is well underway,” he said.

The public is advised the site is a dangerous site and to avoid any close proximity. The site is barricaded and posted with warning signage.
