Dickens’Brendle among TxDOT employees honored at annual ceremony in Childress

CHILDRESS – Three Childress District TxDOT employees were honored at the 28th annual Texans Caring for Texans ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 3 on the campus of West Texas A&M University in Canyon. The award,establishedin1996by the late Rep. David Swinford, honors state employees who go above and beyond in their service to their communities and state of Texas.

Leland Brendle, Dickens County Maintenance Assistant Supervisor,washonored for his service to the Senior Citizens in Dickens as well as always going out of his way to help the traveling public. From fixing flats to helping those who break down on district roadways, Brendle makes sure they get back on the roadway and on to their destination.

Shawna Geiser, Maintenance Support Tech at the Childress District headquarters, was honored for her commitment to making sure families who are unable to travel during the Thanksgiving holiday have a traditional Thanksgiving meal. From buying supplies to cooking and delivering the meal, Geiser makes the holiday a little brighter for those who might otherwise not be able to celebrate.

Trevor Ray, Childress County General Transportation Tech, was honored for going above and beyond for the Childress District. Ray was the first to volunteer to help another district when a winter storm struck and they were in dire need of assistance. Always wanting to help others, Ray’s commitment to the communities and state of Texas is evident in all he does.

“Leland, Shawna and Trevor make the Childress Districtproudeachand every day,” stated Childress District Engineer Darwin Lankford. “They make a difference to the district, state and communities they serve.”
