At last week’s KCBD Community Coverage event, you may have seen the “new” ambulance for Dickens County.
“We took delivery of the ambulance and drove it straight to the football field,” said EMS coordinator Debi Gardner.
According to Gardner, the new-to-Dickens County ambulance is a 2019 model purchased from the East Coke County near Bronte with a grant from the Department of State Health Services.
“It took us a year and a half to get it approved,” Gardner said.
The ambulance arrived fully painted with Dickens County’s name and license on it, as part of the purchase agreement.
Dickens EMS averages about 20 transports a month in their ambulance, and the old one had mechanical issues and would sometimes create delays. The new ambulance should correct those concerns.
Although Dickens EMS has the new ambulance in hand, they won’t be able to put it in service just yet, said Gardner, because they are waiting on the new automatic cot with a lift that is on back order. When that arrives, the new ambulance will be good to go.
