On Thursday night, April 8, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrested Dickens County Attorney Aaron Clements after a single-vehicle rollover crash northwest of Lubbock.
According to news coverage by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, reporting from jail records, Clements, 49, was booked about 12:40 a.m. Friday into the Lubbock County Detention Center on a Class B misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated.
The A-J story continued: DPS troopers were dispatched about 9:25 p.m. to U.S. 62 and CR 3000 after a passing motorist witnessed the crash, according to DPS Sgt. Johnny Bures.
Responding troopers found the driver, later identified as Clements, and his vehicle. An initial investigation indicates the vehicle veered off the roadway and rolled over, landing right side up.
Clements was uninjured but was taken to the hospital where his blood was drawn and delivered to a DPS lab for analysis.
Meanwhile, troopers arrested him on the misdemeanor charge and booked him into the Lubbock County jail where he was released on bond about 11:50 a.m. Friday.
Clements’ lawyer, David Guinn, told The Texas Spur that his client “trusts and looks forward to the legal process working as it should.” Guinn said that Clements is “thankful to be alive and needs to recover right now.”
Clements, who has served as an adjunct professor of law at Texas Tech since 2003, maintains residences in both Lubbock and Spur and was elected county attorney for Dickens County in November 2018 to fill an unexpired term.
