District, state, federal candidates file for March 1 primary

Candidates for district, state and federal offices have filed to be on the March 1 primary ballot in Texas.

In the Republican primary in the race for district judge, 110th Judicial District, William P. “Bill” Smith, incumbent, has filed to be on the ballot. District 110 is the district court for Briscoe, Dickens, Floyd and Motley counties.

In the Republican primary in the race for District Judge, 39th District, Shane Hadaway, the incumbent, has filed to be to the ballot. Texas’ 39th District Court covers Kent, Stonewall and Throckmorton counties.

No candidates have filed in district races for the Democratic party, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.

In the Republican primary for state senate elections, Charles Perry (R-Lubbock), SD-28, is running unopposed. His district includes Dickens and Kent counties. Perry has served in the state senate since 2014.

In the Republican primary for state house elections, Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock), HD-83, has recently seen his district redrawn to now include Dickens and Kent counties.

Burrows, a Lubbock attorney who has been in the Texas House since 2015, had a primary foe surface on the day of the deadline with Austin Jordan’s filing in House District 83.

Efforts by The Texas Spur to find out background or contact information on Jordan have been unsuccessful.

In federal races, Dickens County will continue to be represented by U.S. House District 13. Ronny Jackson (R-Amarillo), incumbent has filed for re-election. Jackson is running unopposed in the March primary, but he has drawn a Democratic opponent for the November election.

Kathleen Brown (D-Wichita Falls), an attorney, filed to appear on the Democratic ballot on March 1.

Kent County will continue to be located in U.S. House District 19, which is currently served by Jodey Arrington (R-Lubbock). Arrington has filed for re-election the March primary and he is running unopposed.

No candidates filed for the Democratic primary for U.S. House District 19, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s website.

The last day to register to vote in the March 1 primary is Jan. 31. Early voting begins on Feb. 14. The last day to apply for a mail-in ballot is Feb. 18.
