Early voting robust in Dickens, Kent counties

Early voting was intense in Dickens County, according to acting district clerk Danay Carnes. 227 Republicans voted early, and 15 Democrats cast early ballots.

“This was much higher than we usually see in an election like this for early voting,” Carnes said. “We had 50 votes Friday alone. Typically, we’ll only see about 100 early votes total.”

On the ballot in the March 1 Texas primary are U.S. House races, all state races from governor to state board of education, state house races and district offices. At the county level there are contested races for justice of the peace and commissioners in precincts 2 and 4.

For Dickens County justice of the peace there are three candidates: Arlene Abernathy, Matt McArthur and Patti Hegar.

For precinct 2, incumbent Mike Smith is being challenged by David Baxter.

For precinct 4, incumbent Jerry Alexander is being challenged by Greg Arnold.
