LUBBOCK— The Lubbock BookFestival is October 15 and 16 at the city’s Mahon Public Library, and it’s completely free to attend. Nearly 60 authors will be in attendance, including Barbara Brannon of Spur, presenting this year as Will Brandon, author of the multi-awardnominated “The Wolf Hunt: A Tale of the Texas Badlands.”
Brannon will take part Saturday afternoon, 12:45–1:45 PM along with NY Times and USA Today bestselling author Darynda Jones and USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Kim Hunt Harris, on the panel “Women Getting Away with Murder.” Each of the witers will discuss the devilishly complex webs they weave to make a scintillating mystery novel. Brannon will also read on Saturday afternoon from “The Wolf Hunt,” a pastiche of the favorite Sherlock Holmes classic “The Hound of the Baskervilles” set in the remote Croton Breaks of Dickens and Kent Counties and taking place appropriately in the month of Halloween.
This free, two-day long event connects authors and readers through a celebration of literacy, creativity, and stories! From the tiniest of tots to the experienced reader, from YA fiction to crime thriller (and everything in between), this festival highlights the thriving author culture deeply rooted in the South Plains.
Brannon, along with newspaper publisher and Paragraph Ranch series co author Kay Ellington, instituted the Lubbock Book Festival in 2017 under the auspices of LHUCA. In 2021, the event returned as a project of the Lubbock Public Library and Literary Lubbock. Last year, more than 60 authors took part, most of them from the West Texas area. Organizers said this year they have planned “more authors, engaging panels, chummy book signings, educational writing workshops, and delightful family-fun crafts and activities.”
