In a sea of terrible news, the whole year of 2020 seems like we have some good news from the EPA. A new herbicide to control summer and winter annual broadleaf weeds and grass weeds has been approved.
Rezilon herbicide from Bayer Environmental Science uses the active ingredient indaziflam to control more than 60 broadleaf and annual grass weeds in sites that manage hay. This new product is a preemergent that constantly controls annual grass and broadleaf weeds in bermudagrass fields. Additionally, it will work in other warm grass fields and manage unwanted grasses as well.
To have year-round control with Rezilon, it is recommended to spray in the late summer and early winter. Sprayed in August or September, it will provide preemergent control for fall weeds. Sprayed again in January and February, it will provide control for spring weeds.
Indaziflam is an active ingredient that targets grass weeds in bermudagrass pastures. This will give another option to hay farmers and ranchers to achieve effective weed control year-round. By eliminating weeds, Rezilon also helps to increase fertilizer and water utilization in hay and forage production. In fact, when applied according to label directions, growers could see a higher-quality forage produced on their first harvest.
Overall, the herbicide controls more than 60 broadleaf and annual grass weeds, including species that have developed herbicide resistance, such as ryegrass. Using Rezilon as directed also reduces the time and money hay growers would otherwise need to spend on additional herbicide applications.
