We had a basic jewelry making craft night at the library earlier this month. Several people who wanted to attend couldn’t make it, so we will be doing it again. It will probably be after the holidays. We will be having another craft night this month on Thursday, October 28, at 5:30. All I know right now is it will be fall themed. I’m sure pumpkins will be involved. You can keep up with the happenings at the library by following our Facebook page.
I did a webinar last week on the Libby app, which is what you use to access the library’s ebooks on your smart phone or tablet. Ebooks are available in either regular book format or audio format. We are part of the West Texas Digital Consortium, a partnership that enables us to offer our patrons more variety in their reading materials. If you have a Kindle tablet you will have to access the Libby app through the browser. If there is enough interest we could do a presentation at the library on this newest trend in reading. It is my preferred way to read. The only problem I have with it is, people don’t have to come into the library to check out their books and I miss getting to see everyone!
Our back room has been cleaned up and ready for you to see all of the new books the Friends of the Library have for sale. Due to some generous donations over the last few months we have many of your favorite authors available in hardcover to add to your collections. There are hardcover books by John Grisham, Janet Evanovich, James Patterson, Danielle Steel and many more. In non-fiction we have many biographies, self-help books, cookbooks and more.
Halloween is not even over yet, but if you’ve been out and about you will notice Christmas decorations are already on the store shelves. If that puts you in the Christmas reading mood, then we have a couple of new books you might want to check out. Debbie Macomber is one of our patrons’ favorite romance authors. Macomber and Sheila Roberts released two stories in one book with “Because It’s Christmas.” Macomber’s “Christmas Basket” has star-crossed lovers who might just have a second chance this Christmas. Ex-boyfriends and ex-husbands are on the list for Roberts’ “Merry Ex-Mas.”
Another favorite, Nora Roberts, brings us two of her own Christmas stories in “Christmas With You.” If you are not quite ready for Christmas yet you might be more interested in New York Times bestselling author of suspense, J.A. Jance’s “Dance of the Bones” in which she pairs two of her most acclaimed series characters, J.P. Beaumont and Brandon Walker. Whatever you are in the mood to read you can find it here.
