Filings coming in for Dickens County March Primary ballot

NO CONSTABLE ON BALLOT

In Dickens County, candidacy filings have begun rolling in this week for local offices for the March 5, 2024 primary election ballot.

Incumbent commissioner for precinct 1 Dennis Wyatt has filed for reelection. Regarding the Constable position in Dickens County, party chair Jody Duggan confirmed that this office does not exist. The Dickens County Commissioners Court consolidated precincts and abolished the post in April 2009.

Last week Dickens County resident Billy Spears had filed to run for constable, but GOP chair Duggan confirmed that that position will not be on the ballot.

Rhonda Brendle has filed with Dickens County Republican Chair Jody Duggan to run for tax assessor- collector. Jay Allen has filed to run for sheriff.

Incumbent tax assessorcollector Rebecca Haney has announced that she is not seeking re-election, while incumbent Sheriff Terry Braly has made no announcement about reelection.

Texas Spur Country offices up for election for the next four-year term follow the statewide ballot structure (unless an officeholder was appointed mid-term and has to run in 2024 to complete the term associated with that office). On the ballot in every county in the state are the offices of sheriff, tax assessorcollector, county attorney, and commissioners of Precincts 1 and 3. Commissioner Charlie Morris, precinct 3 incumbent, has announced that he will not be seeking re-election.

In the 110th Judicial District counties of Briscoe, Dickens, Floyd and Motley counties, District Attorney Emily Teegardin, who was appointed to complete the term of predecessor Wade Jackson, will be on the 2024 primary ballot. In Dickens County, Justice of the Peace Stella Carter, who was appointed one year into the term of predecessor Patti Hagar, will be on the 2024 primary ballot.

November 11, 2023, was the first day that candidates for county office could file for a place on the partisan primary ballot. All candidates should file a treasury report with the county clerk at the courthouse in their respective counties.

In Dickens County, Republican candidates will pick up an application from county chair Jody Duggan.
